You stepped into a very diffucult situation and turned it around such that our involvement with the insurance company and adjuster was minimum. You not only restored our home, but made it better.  When (or if) disaster ever strikes, you don’t want to be caught off guard. A little preparation can go a long way to assure your safety. At Thistle DKI in Las Vegas, we want you and your family to be safe. That is why we have the following tips to building your own emergency kit. This way, you’ll be prepared for any situation that might arise.

When to Build it

It is important that your kit is ready at all times. Don’t wait long to build it, as you will never know when you might need it (hopefully never!). Make sure you put all things in the same container/place. That way, you won’t waste time if you need to evacuate.

What it Needs

Your kit should contain enough food and water to survive for 72 hours. Local authorities may not be able to reach everyone immediately, so it’s important to keep that in mind.

The US Government recommends the following items:

-Water, one gallon of water per person per day for at least three days, for drinking and sanitation.
-Food, at least a three-day supply of non-perishable food.
-Battery-powered or hand crank radio and a NOAA Weather Radio with tone alert and extra batteries for both.
-Flashlight and extra batteries.
-First aid kit.
-Whistle to signal for help.
-Dust mask to help filter contaminated air and plastic sheeting and duct tape to shelter-in-place.
-Moist towelettes, garbage bags and plastic ties for personal sanitation.
-Wrench or pliers to turn off utilities.
-Manual can opener for food.
-Local maps.
-Cell phone with chargers, inverter or solar charger.

Besides that, you can also keep your prescription medication, glasses and things to pass time with.
