How to Prevent an Electrical Fire in Your Home

With so many gadgets and electricity cables around the average home, it's no surprise that electrical fires are becoming increasingly common. To help you prevent electrical fires in your home, Thistle DKI has some two tips to share.

Check Your Cables

Set aside an afternoon and walk around your house checking each and every power cable you can see. This includes opening your cupboards and findings power cables in storage which people may use later. When inspecting your power cables, look for any type of damage such as any exposed wiring or instances where the cable has melted. These are the number two signs that you should replace the power cable. If left to operate unsafely, it can easily spark and cause a fire.

Check Your Sockets

While you are checking your cables, also check the condition of your power sockets. If any of them are loose or show signs of damage or burning, discontinue using them until you have repaired and replaced the socket. When checking your sockets, pay attention to how many extension boards you are using. If you can see power strips which are 'daisy-chained' together, unplug them immediately as this can overload the socket. Instead, only use one power strip per power socket.
